Men's Group

Group Therapy

Men's therapy groups provide a safe and supportive space to explore emotions and challenges while gaining insights, coping skills, and a sense of connection with others.

The group meets every month and offers an affordable way to access therapy, where emotional and mental health issues, such as stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship problems, can be addressed in a supportive and confidential environment.

Joining a group

Group therapy is often more cost-effective than individual therapy, making it accessible to a broader range of people. It can be a more affordable option for those with limited financial resources, with each two-hour session costing £20 per person.  Aside from financial savings, groups offer several advantages that benefit individuals seeking support:

Peer Support: Participants in a group can connect with others facing similar challenges, reducing feelings of isolation. Sharing experiences with peers can create a sense of belonging and support.

Diverse Perspectives: Groups bring together people from different backgrounds, ages, and experiences. This diversity can provide a range of perspectives and ideas for coping with issues and solving problems.

Feedback and Validation: Group members can provide feedback and validation for each other's experiences and feelings. This can help individuals gain insights into their situations and feel understood and accepted.

Social Skills Development: Group therapy provides an opportunity to practice and improve social and communication skills. Participants can learn to express themselves effectively, give and receive feedback, and navigate interpersonal relationships.

Increased Self-Awareness: Interacting with others and hearing their stories can increase self-awareness. Group members may identify with others' struggles and see patterns in their behaviour or thought processes.

Normalising Experiences: Group therapy can help individuals realise that their experiences and feelings are not unique or abnormal. This normalisation can reduce shame and self-stigma associated with mental health issues.

Emotional Regulation: In a group setting, individuals can practice emotional regulation and coping strategies. They can learn to manage stress, anxiety, and other emotions with the support and guidance of the therapist and peers.

How they work

Confidentiality: Group therapy is conducted under strict confidentiality rules, creating a safe and non-judgmental environment for sharing and self-exploration.

Structure: Men's therapy groups consist of a small number of participants, usually between 5 and 10 individuals. This small size allows for more personal interactions and fosters a sense of safety and trust among group members.

Meeting Schedule: Groups meet monthly and have a set duration of 120 minutes.

Confidentiality: Group members are expected to maintain strict confidentiality. This means that what is shared in the group stays within the group. This confidentiality is crucial for creating a safe environment where participants can openly discuss their feelings and experiences.

Topics and Themes: Group meetings may focus on specific issues or themes related to men's mental health, such as managing stress, improving relationships, dealing with anger, or coping with life transitions. Members can also bring up their concerns or issues for discussion.

Sharing and Feedback: In a men's therapy group, participants take turns sharing their experiences and emotions. Other group members may provide feedback, support, or insights. This sharing and feedback process can help individuals gain new perspectives and strategies for managing their concerns.

Active Listening: Participants are encouraged to actively listen to one another without judgment. This helps create a non-judgmental space where men can express themselves without fear of criticism.

Group Dynamics: Over time, the group dynamics may evolve, and a sense of camaraderie and support can develop among members. This can be a valuable source of encouragement and connection for participants.

Length of Participation: Men's therapy groups can be either short-term or ongoing, depending on the group's goals and the needs of the participants. Some individuals may choose to participate in a group for a specific period, while others may continue attending for an extended duration.
